Thanks for the info Max, very interesting.
Volvi, I think you did the right thing. There is no way I would consider running to avoid a speeding ticket at 120 (220 different story).
Consider the following points:
1) The seriousness of the offense of failing to stop
2) The WRX is a fast car being driven by a trained and practised officer experienced in pursuing people at high speed.
3) He/she probably knows the local roads as well/if not better than the offender and has nothing to loose by engaging in a pursuit.
4) He/she has a police radio.
Even if you should manage to get away, how do you know they didn't look back over their shoulder and get your rego number as you went past?
Max has informed us that mobile radars now sometimes have cameras with them, but the discussion has speculated that this would not work with a bike when "oncoming" because there is no number plate on the front. Good point, but what's to stop the photo being taken from behind, after the police car has done a U-turn to pursue?
Two more questions for discussion by anyone who cares to offer an opinion:
1) Assuming an oncoming police vehicle with mobile radar is travelling at 110 kph, how fast would you have to be travelling on your Busa (or otherwise) in the opposite direction to be going fast enough for the police not to have time to look back to observe your number plate?
2) Max has informed us that the new mobile radars will work up to 1000m and have a camera setup. Does that mean the camera range is 1000m also? This would be relevant in the situation where the police car did a U-turn and photographed you from behind.
