It's a sad fact of life that if some low life want's your bike bad enough they will usually get it. The only defence as owners is to make it TOO HARD for them so that they will move on to something easier. One of the best alarms I ever bought was a small maltese terrier that has different barks for different situations so that I can tell what's going on from inside the house.
Put simply, no one gets on my property unless I call the dog off & let them in. Even then she's likely to have a go at me for not letting her have a go at them !
Disk locks are better that nothing but you can slow the bastards down a bit by tethering the bike to something solid by cable lock. By doing this you increase their chances of detection & your chances of keeping the bike in your possession particularly when parked out of your sight.
Harley riders have complained about being followed home by someone who then returns later & steals bike so be aware as that can happen to anyone. If someone follows you, don't go home, park it, have a coffee while watching it & get their number/ description.
Finally, much closer scrutiny should be given to the insurance company practice of selling off wrecks & the prevention of identity re birthing.
