It depends what can u have? Carbon fibre or alloy (stainless, titanium, alloy all fall into the same group).
The alloy group don't really suffer any damage, and generally do ok, you should still check them though. But your right about the noise levels in a can, some people think because the can gets louder it's broken in properly, but in fact it's starting to burn out the baffle (especially carbon fibre cans).
Iv'e seen stainless cans get so hot that they damage the internal baffle housing (that mesh looking thing when you look down your pipe), it can be fixed but why should u fork out the
extra $$,but carbon are the worst by far.
A friend of mine had yoshi c/f on a TLR and wondered why they were louder than usual, I checked them out for him and found that they had gotten so hot around the muffler strap that when I took it off it split in two. The c/f skins were ruined and the price for a new set was $950..!!!! (just for the c/f skins) I got him some stainless ones instead which were alot cheaper.
So next time someone says "guarenteed for life" get it in writing......or get them to cover you under warranty.
Cheers....Paul
