OK..here's a little inside info..speaking PURELY hypothetically, you understand...
Oh..all this relates to Victoria ONLY
Static speed cameras seem to be the biggest bugbear..solution..move rego label up over plate. If caught by police you stand to cop a $110.00 fine and three points.
Speeding fines; either camera or copper...b/t 1 - 10 km/h over...$125.00 and 1 point... 10 - 25 km/h over $200.00 and 3 points..25 - 35 km/h over $265.00 1 month suspension, 4 points..35 - 45 km/h over $360.00, 6 month suspension, 6 points...45 or more over..$430.00, 12 month suspension, 8 demerit points.
Alright..a copper in a car..even the Traffic Managemnt Unit SS's and XR 8's, once he's got you with a laser/radar, has to get from a standing start to catch you over time and distance. If you've been done on a moving-mode radar (police car coming the other way) he'll have to slow down, do a U-turn and then try to catch up to you. If you decide to run, a pursuit will more than likely be called off...especially if the speeds are excessive, this can depend on traffic conditions, who's chasing you etc. Keep in mind not even the mighty 'Busa can outrun a police radio, and the police helicopter (if available) can cruise at 140 knots (260 km/h) for 200 minutes and has a top speed of 195 knots (360 km/h). Also it doesn't have to slow down for corners, or even take corners for that matter. All they need to get is your rego number and then they'll catch up with you later. Also keep in mind that if you are caught after a pursuit, there will not just be the speeding charges to face. You could face charges of Conduct Endangering Life (this includes your own), Dangerous Driving charges (any of which could put you in Gaol) and you'll probably cop a flogging when they catch you too.
It's up to you to weigh up the consequences of your actions and to take responsibility for them. Here endeth the lesson...
