I raise this point because of the recent push for NSW to follow Victoria's lead in frequent, mobile, hidden cameras. In terms of saving lives, I'm assuming Victoria has lower annual deaths, although I do wonder if that's calculated per capita.
Anyway, I've noticed this before in previous years, that over the holiday period most times NSW is comparable with Victoria and maybe even Queensland when considering the difference in populations. Read the recent news report below and notice that the only State (Territory) to be death free is the tiny ACT, followed by the other (no speed limit at the time) territory with just 1 death.
"Nineteen people were killed on NSW roads over the Christmas-New Year period, 15 in Victoria, 13 in Queensland, four in Tasmania, Western Australia recorded six deaths, while South Australia had three.
One person died on the Northern Territory's road, while the Australian Capital Territory remained fatality free".
Speed is 3rd or 4th on the list of accident causes, but the only one where money can be easily raised. Everyone knows the con, why can't they just be honest that it's a tax? Then who would care? It's being treated like an idiot that annoys me.
It's often been said that motorist should be massively law abiding for a year or two, then the lost revenue would force the state to at least come clean. Well that must be true, because this ridiculous campaign comes on the back of 200,000 less tickets being issued in NSW. Instead of saying "good the message is getting through" they're whinging about the lost monies. Wankers!
