Hi mate,
If your looking for a LAMS bike how about the GS500. Great little paralell twin with some cubes to boot. Great starting bike. Light, stears well and good for all of the Canberra round abouts (I lived in Canberra for 16 years ).
Give it a look if nothing else. Seems a shame to ride/spend your money on something as small as a 250 when there are other options out there and for about the same money! They are also quite a few of them around so finding one shouldn't be hard. Usually ridden by learners or comuters. A friend of mine had one as a learner and she kept it for ages. Certainly alot longer than she would have kept a 250.
Oh, and a 500 will give her the ability to have a little fun up the Clyde when she gets to that stage.... 250 is too small imho.
Good luck with the purchase and congrats to the better half! Cheers,
Holge
