OK, so here's the deal... (Rod has just said this, in a very concise way, but here is my expanded version...)
We have frequently had people come along in the past and say "let's do this and that!" and 6 weeks later, or 2 years later, or whatever, they have gone.
We have avoided, and wish to avoid, going with anything that relies on any given member. This is why Volvi said it has to be independent - this is why we started with ezboard.
Also, yes, someone could do all those things, and set everything up, and do all the things, and then, a few months down the track, they get slack with it because it becomes yet another unrecognised chore... or they move on, and nobody wants to take over... so then we are left with more tasks that have to be done, and have to find someone to do it.
Or the offers of free hosting disappear with someone's change of bike... (and I have to say, we have been lucky with Peter Lee, who rarely if ever, comes in here, yet still does the main club pages for little or no recognition, as well as "Hellman" Chris, who provides the redirection from "www.ozbusa.com" to these pages, but rarely appears here any more).
I am not adverse to change, but we have survived, and even thrived, in the current format, with almost no work or effort... I don't object to checking out Yuku, as I agree there are short comings here, but I don't wanna put a f*** load of time and effort in to switching to something else, and then have to field all the "but this new one doesn't let me do ..." shit, or "the old one never did..."
We did try private hosted boards, once. Early, it had everything that the public boards had, but then new features were added to the public boards, and soon we felt we were languishing. Another issue is that ezboard, despite its shortcomings, has remained reasonably stable, and has had a lot less down time than a lot of privately hosted boards that I visit. Also, with almost zero effort on our part, this continues to operate reasonably and be seen and be found...
One of the reasons we didn't jump on to Yuku early is that we don't have to be pioneers when we don't need to - if it's all stable now, it may be time to switch, but we don't have to be beta testers. It would be good to get integrated photo hosting, for example, and piss off having to pre-load in to photo bucket or whatever...
So, let's discuss where we can go, what all the options are, consider the benefits and disadvantages, get costings, etc, but please, let's not be too hasty to change cause we may end up f*&^ing up 6 years worth of successful board hosting just because we want one or two new features.... As a wise man once said, if it ain't broke, don't f*** with it...
