Gen 1 Clutch Issue
#2
my thoughts are the bike is still on its first oem set of plates/clutch. wont last forever. mine started slipping many yrs back, bike may have been on 50k. I changed all the plates to oem even new oem springs (soaked them overnight in fresh oil). had to buy clutch basket tool. did alot of piss farting around. remember im no mechanic and decided to do the work myself off a manual. eventually it all came good. yea added the updated spring ring plate that was added in later models (2001 i think). check ron fischer parts fich.

would I do this job again? No. just buying the new oem plates etc. were expensive enough, close to $400 from memory. (some of the old steel plates had burn marks). Id look into aftermarket kits and probably wud get someone else to do the job, besides no longer have clutch basket tool (a must have to loosen and tighten main bolt). If you give the bike some stick expect the plates to wear and burn with time. clutch still good 10 yrs later and now on 90k.
