Hi Ross,
It pains me to follow this post. I'm curious as to what has been done. So my questions are based on a sequential fault finding approach. They've probably already been checked by my distinguished colleagues.
1. You mentioned in your first post that you replaced your rings and checked your valve clearances. Later you found 'sandy type crap' in your sump. What is your compression pressure now? Valves can settle further after a valve job. recheck your clearances.
2. You found your fuel system to be contaminated. Have you cleaned/had your injectors cleaned and tested? Last week I spent a good two hours resurrecting a set of gummed up injectors. Is the pump flowing volume and pressure to spec at the rail?
3. Have you replaced your plugs?
4. Have you bypassed your clutch switch?
5. Are you getting any fault codes?
The ECU is quite robust. I've seen them operate quite happily in an off-road buggy despite being unrestrained! It's usually the sensors or wiring which go first. That sidestand switch might be playing up too, i.e. intermittent fault.
