Indeed a great thread as my solution of the last two years is now letting me down.
I've used an RST polyester welded seem waterproof jacket over my leather jacket for touring. This is quite a thin jacket, packs very small, and is light. But it stops wind and rain 100%, or has up till last week. And this overjacket was comfy too. I tested it in some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen in New Zealand, boy that west coast gets wet. At Haast it was pathetic weather. Not a drop leaked, except one day when my jumper hung out of my pants and got wet... that was a wet experience! Anyway for two years its been great, and I had a naked bike to boot before the Busa. Last weekend I put it on in a heavy shower coming back up McCarrs Creek road (my wife and I love an early breakfast at Palm Beach in sydney). The old faithfull jacket was over my mesh jacket and the water just oozed straight through. Waterproofing gone. A note inside the jacket says application of a special silicone spray will help retain the waterproofing but I think its too late.
My pants solution is simple, RJays textile waterproof pants and a spare pair from Aldi (great quality one third the price). No leaks there yet. I wear the textile pants over jeans most of the year unless its really hot or I think the leathers are warranted.... he, he, he, and those days I try and make sure its fine.
So would I buy the RST jacket again... well, not if I only get two years out of it. So the dri-rider could be the go... I'll let you know what I get, as I have to get something before the superbikes, cause I know I'll get wet on the way!
