Final update hopefully. I've run a seperate earth to the ballast, installed a relay using the existing hi beam wiring from the switch to trigger it, run slightly heavier wiring from the relay to the light, slim ballast still wouldnt work properly but std one did. Waved my magic wand to make a bit of space t install std ballast and all now seems well
