With the clutch switch you will hear it click on and off just put your ear close to the leaver and pull in slowly to see if you hear click

You don't need to start the motor to diagnose the clutch lever thing...

Try this: (DON'T touch the start/crank button at all!!!)

Put clutch lever to setting 5 or 6, then with ignition on, pull in the lever with your ear close to the lever. You should hear a tick/click sound, which is the switch being activated.

Put clutch lever to setting 1 or 2, then with ignition on (again), pull in the lever with your ear close to the lever. If there is NO tick/click sound, that's the problem... (or "optional anti-theft security device" depending on your point of view)
