Well reading about the recall Rectifiers, it said it will or may discharge your battery and find it hard to start. But if the Rectifier was giving out too much charge that for sure will cut the life of the battery and stuff a cell.
When I received my Gen 2 a few months ago it would not start at all. Charged the battery up and away it went. But left for two days and the battery was flat. So I bought a new one and have had no trouble since. But I find out later that the Rectifier had to be changed because it was in the VIN# for recall. So maybe because the weather up was crap I never rode the bike at all. So if the Rectifier would have stuffed my other battery I wouldn't know now as i cleaned the terminals which did have corrosion under battery clamp where the earth and live wire go on the battery. So who knows if my old battery was stuffed because of the Rectifier.
First thing I would do is check the battery terminals to see if any corrosion and clean. Check to see if the battery is charged up as that will stop the bike from starting because a hot motor is harder to start then a cold or warm one. If you find that the battery is flat or is under charged then for sure buy a new one. Most bike stores have the replacement for you bike. which one is the best not sure as there are some many today on the market. But I would buy a jap made one or Australian made battery and gelcell one.
