I found that it wasn't just the ballasts, with my bike. If I had the connectors close to my gauge cluster the gauges would freeze up, no matter how far away my ballasts were mounted.
I have both ballasts mounted on my R/H ram air tube, which puts them at a sufficient distance from the gauge cluster that they don't interfere with it.
