Been lots of looks, but no replys, so no-one with the tech know-how has seen that can help . . . yet.
So with very little to add, I'll start. The "choke" is not a choke, it's a fast idle, which means it just raises the the idle without changing the air fuel mixture. The same as winding on the throttle a bit, and does just that.

give it some revs at start up, as they need a few revs to get the oil up to the top of the engine from cold. (2000-3000rpm)
