That's what I thought too.... According to my workshop manual, it says to use sealant with new gasket(s) Confused

Maybe what works for others might not work for all?

Rod, the manual says to spread some goop on the area of the gasket that crosses the join in the cases and between the two bolt holes on each side. No more. You don't need any more than that and it's a bitch to get off if you cover the whole mating surfaces the next time you change the cover gasket.
