Carbon Busa has a link to a mob in the USA who will supply as new used parts t6o do the complete job for about $700 USD ,so why sweat it. Keep your battery up to scratch & your fingers crossed & your ears peeled during start up. If it Doe's happen 700 buck's isn't that hard to find.& if it doesn't ,why waste 700 bucks .You feeling lucky ? I am .
I have a 2000 as well and figured I'd upgrade once the parts wear out. I'm reliably informed that if you keep your battery in good condition, you shouldn't have a problem - there are plenty of them out there not experiencing any kick back damage. Also, you'll avoid the kick back problem if when starting, you only release the key once the engine has fired.
More relevant to your post, you could get the parts off of a wrecked low mileage 2003+ bike.
Thanks for the replies. I've owned my 2000 model for 3.5 years. I'm aware of the starting procedures and risks but I have installed HID lights and the damage to my starter has already happened. I have a source where to buy the parts but I need advice which exact parts are needed to be changed to make the change over work. This is why I listed the co-inciding part numbers.
If someone can please give advice what parts are needed to change over this would be extremely appreciated.
Cheers
