Google says Sydney to Perth via Goulburn, Wagga, Hay, Mildura etc is 3955km. Half that is 1977kms. That puts us on the side of the road 10kms short of Mudamuckla 
so since us east coasters are made of stern stuff we could probably coast the extra 41km into Ceduna. Problem is... its Ceduna... although I've never been there and dont know whats there but thats pretty much half way... Edit: I have been there, mid '92, its probably changed, haha)
Of course thats only half way distance wise and its all in a straight line for the westerners
so maybe Port Lincoln (Syd 1892kms/Perth 2338kms). Port Augusta (Syd 1551kms/Perth 2404kms) is probably a little too uneven. And Adelaide (Syd 1375kms/ Perth 2703km)...? May as well just meet the em in the western suburbs somewhere
