vmax vs hayabusa
#16
Hi Guys,

Seems like not many of the lads here have ridden the new vmax although I know that Rev has Coolsmiley
As a previous Gen 1 owner (some of you know me as Holger the Dane) I have a different perspective of this debate.
Sure, it has some inovative gear that looks fantastic on the stats. BUT..... The best way to get the Vmax sorted is to get rid of all of that techno mumbo jumbo. Get rid of the cat (including EXUP servo)and replace with free flowing pipes and an xpipe variant, Variable intakes can go and be replaced with velocity stacks and individual filters, AIS mod (return air system similar to the PELS system on the gen1 busa) and install a speedfix (to give maximum power in each gear and remove speed limiter) along with a PCV and auto tune if you want to get fussy.

Is it a "Japanese hardly davidson"?? Is that observation in relation to the price in comparison to other cheeper Japanese muscle cruisers? Oh, that's right. there aren't any. Just like the Busa in its day, it stands alone and beleive me, you do get what you pay for. In spades. The quality of the detail far surpasses any other modern jap bike imho, and yes you have to pay if you want something limited and special. Sure you could spend a tonne of cash on your Busa ans it would be fast. But you could use that theory with any bike. As a mater of fact, this is the same train of thought that I used with my vmax! I had my heart set on the BMW HP2 sport. Put a deposit down on it and waited for 8 months with no bike to be seen. So I decided to spend the 42k (price of the BMW on the road) on the max. You get the idea.

The Busa has more street cred?? Your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. Just have a look at the croud of riders around a new max. It is a very interesting bike.

Not everone likes the aesthetics of the Vmax, just like there are many who question the aesthetics of the Busa's (gen 1 and gen 2). Personally I appreciate both bikes on their merits.

Is it a quatermile Busa killer?? No, not really. Some mod'ed '09 Vmaxes are doing low 9's in the us and another is down to low 8's with funny gas so some more development is required in order to cement its place on the strip. But, where it counts is in the real world. Does it go faster than the busa, no. Aerodynamics, seating position and a raft of other factors flatly prevent it from doing so. Does it go harder than the Busa? Yup, it pulls like a train. It is on its own here and the numbers speek for themselves. At the moment mine is up to 206bhp and 178nm. Show me a busa with similar mods (no engine work, just make it breathe and get the fueling right) and the same numbers. Coffee Think what you like but you might like to reserve your judgement until you ride both bikes. As you you pointed out, it has alot to do with the loose nut behind the bars but in the real world, it is a formitable bike.

The handling?? Well it will never be as good a bike on the track as a Busa can be. It's not designed for it. It is also not designed to go anywhere near as fast. But I think that the vmax (stock) handles just as well as my Gen1 did once it was sorted. And those of you who know me know that it had been sorted out properly. If you then do a few things to the max such as good tyres, remove weight, get the suspension set up properly etc, it can be alot of fun. Ride one, and you will get the idea.

Now please don't get me wrong. I'm not challenging anyone to a showdown or calling anyone names, just throwing in my two cents as a previous Busa and current Vmax owner and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
I also aknowledge that this is the Busa site and I understand that there will be some inherent "other bike sledging" in any site such as this so please don't think that I have taken anything here personally Very Happy
Just to give you an idea of the "real world" handling capabilities, here is a member of the US Vmax site. He is known as Cruise Missile. Man has some wicked skills both in riding and customising.
