overheating??

hi guys,just a problem i encountered today,i started the bike cold let it warm up,rode approximately 6k and notice the temp gauge rapidly rose into the red zone,ive turned bike off and checked oil,coolant levels etc all are spot on.im thin king maybe i have a problem with the fan??is there a fuse etc?any help would be appreciated
