If these 'asylum seekers' want to come here, then I think they should be processed similar to an illegal immigrant until verification that they are true asylum seekers.
As said above, for many it is a lifestyle that they are after. Personally, I find coaxing the so called asylum seekers off the boat with such a sweet deal degrading and insulting to not only Australian citizens but to the other ethnic people that have come to this country by going through the right channels without any incentive.
There are many in this country that do not have a job (not through lack of trying) yet are unable to claim benefits, get financial assistance, etc. The pensioners in this country have a it tough with minimal amounts of money to live on, and it's even worse for them if they are a couple on a pension.IMO this country should start to look after its' own citizens first before encouraging others to just rock up here and reap the benefits.
