I also have issues with gear selection but i am only up to 1500km on my new GenII.
If you have 2 years from new to break it then try your hardest, my missus cracked 30,000km on her gixxer 750 in her 1st 12 months and blew the ecu, fully covered under warranty (would have cost over 1200$) to repair. i am runnin mineral till 6k then switchin to a semi sythethic or maybe full. Of course if something start rattling you stop and check it, gotta be sensible about these things.
