It probably did have the current flow before, but led's will produce light at very much lower voltages and current than filament bulbs
Just for curiosity sake temporarily add a 12volt bulb (perhaps 5 watt)
to one side at the rear and see if that side LED still triggers. QUOTE: Lack of power has caused more failure than lack of intelligence or ability.
