I know for me the rims, especially the chain side needs a lot of attention but I'm a bit iffy on the best methods to use. Had to remove fresh tar from a few spots also due to the slap happy methods sometimes used by our main roads patchwork quilters guild.
I've found the easiest way to get those tar spots left by the shovel holders off is turtle wax bug & tar remover.....just spray it on, leave for a couple of minutes and then wipe it off....it leaves a polished finished.
