Over heating

Just recently my bike has started to randomly overheat. Its never been a problem even on the hottest sitting at the ligts in traffic. The thermo only seems to come on the once and then thats its, 50 sec's later the needle is heading towards the 'H' at a rapid rate. Soon as I get air flow the temp returns to normal.

To date I've changed both temp senders and the radiator cap just to be sure. Theres no drag on the thermo fan so the windings appear okay. Would the next logical thing to swap out be the switch/soliniod that controls the thermo fan?

Also I'm after a decent place to take my bike here in Canberra. This issue seems to be in the too hard basket for some of the businesses here.
