Bugso, thanks for trying. It's hard to please everyone at any time. For my part, Bathurst was an easy choice.
50 of us gathered there last April. From 3 states - one from as far away as Townsville. Simple rules -
1. Get there any way you can on 2 wheels.
2. Bring a roll of bog paper, a can of beer and half a brick.
3. Be out the front of the Royal Hotel in Sofala at 12 noon on the date advised.
4. Accommodation is your responsibilty.
So 8 of us left Yaragon the day before, our destination that evening was the Loaded Dog at Tarago ( camping out in the paddock behind the pub ). We picked up a bloke that we had never met before at Bombala, another blokes Dad in Queanbeyan and made it to the pub in time for a game of pool before dinner.
Next morning it was up early, 6ish - some didn't make it to bed till 3 - push start a bike that had no choke and was covered in frost. Have a quick brekky in Goulburn and head north to Oberon, where we picked up another 2 blokes that had come up from Wagga.
The Dirty Dozen arrived at 11.58 outside the pub in Sofala. Camp was set up in a paddock just outside of town, near a creek, enough wood was supplied for us for $100 to last all night.
So what was the bog paper and the half a brick for ?
Sunday morning saw us ride up the Mountain to McPhillimy Park to where a so-called riot happened a few Easters past. The bricks were used to build a memorial cairn, toasts to days gone by were made and the rolls were burned in effigy.
What a terrific weekend.
My other half rode home to Melbourne that day, I went to my old Motorcycle Club's 6th Birthday Bash at Mt Victoria, then spent a few days with my family in Sydney before heading home.
So Bugso, if you do get this ride up an running, give me a hoy. I'm in.
