Bad Data old man. The Vicpol still have revolvers. 6 shooters. They probably carry an additional 6 rounds each in a speadloader pouch on their belts. They fired 1 shot each.
They sprayed him with 2 full containers of OC spray. There were 4 coppers responded to a report iof an angry male with 2 large knives he had stolen from a nearby shopping center.
His actions were nothing short of "Suicide by cop" unfortunately. He backed them into a corner and even after being sprayed continued to attack them. Shocking to have to shoot this angry young bloke, you really needed to be there to know the whole story.
Rather than tar all coppers with the same brush, I suggest waiting to see whether the Coroner comes to the same conclusion the police did - they had no practical alternative to the use of force option they utilised. If not they will face action, both criminal, departmental and civil, but at the end of the day, they weren't the ones waving big knives around, they were protecting not only themselves, but everyone else in that young fella's path.
And they weren't traffic cops.
I have to agree with Dad, a Tazer would have stopped him without them having to use lethal force.
