IMHO, claim it on insurance and keep your new toy pristine.
Mine fell off side stand a few years but fortunately, it happened the day after I fitted Oggy Knobs so damage was very minor.
Do the side stand mod. As the other members said, it costs nothing and can save you heaps.
Nowadays, I ALWAYS park in first gear to reduce the chance of it happening again.
It is a shame that other manufacturers don't follow Harley's lead on this one. Once weight goes onto sidestand, it locks into position and cannon be retracted until weight is removed.
