Good news readers, you can inspect the bike yourself without removing the instrument surrounds.
Simply put the bike on the sidestand and put the bars to full lock to the left side..
You can see the cable tie and the grey tape clearly down the side of the steering column.
You can trace the ignition lead back to the cable tie and if the ignition lead is on top of the two switchblock leads and the grey tape is under the cable tie, there is no need to replace the ignition switch.
I will still be taking my bike in for the official inspection when called but it looks like not all bikes are affected.
Here is a photo of the cable tie on my bike.
The grey tape is under the tie and the ignition lead is on top of the two switchblock leads as they should be.
