Excess payment when not at fault

My story is that I was hit from behind at a solid white line leaving a shopping centre. Got the details of the 3rd party (who admitted fault), made the claim, police report etc. Repairs have been approved but QBE want me to pay the policy excess ($500) to the repairer and then they will chase up the 3rd parties insurance to reimburse my $500 and whatever is outstanding to QBE.
Is this the standard process for not at fault claims or is QBE just coving their arse a little?

Some people are like Slinkies ... not really good for anything, but you can't help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.
