Overnight to Walhalla 4/5th November
#47
On Saturday morning I woke to see an overcast sky, but it did not damper my spirits as I knew rain was not forecasted. I got ready and zipped past to pick up Pulse at a predetermined redevous point. We arrive at Robs to find Slic there bright and early. Eventually one by one, the others dribbled in. A briefing was held to explain how we would use the corner marking system on this ride. And, In true Vic fashion, we started out late and headed for the hills.

Sumkhun had planned a route to Walhalla. One he called a scenic path. So naturally he was nominated Ride Leader. It wasn't long before we started on the windy roads into the hills. What I did not realise, was that Sumkhun rides like a man possessed and that is with a pillion on board. Man O Man, can that man ride. He was like a magician. One minute you can see him, then puff, he is gone. Of course, it was not long before the group is divided up. Suddenly, we come across a gravel road, so I shrug my shoulders and think, onward soldiers. We travel a couple of "ks" on this unmade road, where there are no houses or even cars passing the other way, so we stop to regroup and discuss the situation. Had we missed the corner marker, would Sumkhun use a gravel road? A group decision ultimately decides to retrace our steps and look for signs of a road we should have turned at. We get off the gravel road, when all of a sudden this wild beast on a busa (one up) rounds me up. I think to myself, I am getting hijacked here, but we dont have pirates in Australia !!! But as it turns out, it's only Sumkhun looking for his lost sheep Julie, Pulse and Slic, (who was only there looking after the ladies)

As it turned out, we had been on the right road, and I have it on good authority, (Hilary) that Sumkhun was just as surprised when he hit the gravel road also.

So we head back in the direction we had been going and the ride is re-grouped again. I made a mental note to myself, never mis-trust the cornering system !!

So, we are only an hour and a half behind schedule now, but on we go. Once again, Sumkhun did his disappearing act but the cornering system worked perfectly from then on. Not one person was lost on the ride for the rest of the ride.

We arrived at Noojee and head for The Shed. It was only meant to be a coffee break but seeing the time, it was made into a lunch break. A fantastic place with lots of other groups of riders, enjoying the ambience of the restaurant/pub.
After feeding our faces, we are off again at a brisk pace. Sumkhun took us on roads which were nothing less than breathtaking. I had never travelled along any of these roads, and I thought I knew Victoria. Mind you the scenic route had us twisting and turning down so many roads, that by the time the ride was re-grouped again, I was looking for the signs "Welcome to Sydney" But the grins on all the riders faces reflected the enjoyment of the route Sumkhun had planned for us. We eventually arrive at Rawson's village and find that we had a lodge all to ourselves which also had the lodge built around an enclosed campfire/BBQ area. Everyone unpacked, was allocated (seperate) bedrooms, we refreshed ourselves for a short bit, then it was off to Walhalla. The road there was spectacular, albeit a short stop for a little bit of gardening on the side of the road by a member of the ride. All was good and the ride continued. We rode into town and it was like a possie riding through in a Western movie. We stopped for a drink and a run down on the ride so far. Stories were told of numerous marks left not only on roads but in people's riding atire. It seems that some of the boys felt that they were in the MotoGP, but with much more twists than a game of snakes and ladders.

We bid Billy65 goodbye for his long arduous trip back to Geelong whilst the others rode back to camp for dinner and the nights festivities. It is here that I have got to be very careful for fear of having this post censored. Let me say this group are the most left of centre group that has ever got together !!! Everyone behaved at dinner in the restaurant (kind of) then onto the campfire. Yes, there was lots of drinking, laughing, tricks and stories all night. This group is never short of entertainment when they get together.
At some stage, someone decided to take his clothes off and run around the lodge. It must have been a bit warm around the fire.

Eventually just before 4 am, the group decided to get some sleep before we see the sun rise, so we could actually get some riding done and take our babies home.
I made the mistake of leaving my room open whilst I went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. As I am returning to my room, there was a sense of uneasiness creep over me, so I cautiously open the door to my bedroom and it is not even open by two inches when I hear a lot of giggling coming from within. At that point, I think to myself. OK, get ready, something is about to erupt. Well, lo and behold, I walk into my room and it is like a tornado has hit the place. I see pieces of clothing strewn around the room as far as the eye can see. But what makes it worse, is that certain male members, are wearing items of my clothing that was only ever designed for women. Of course I could not take this lying down, so it was on. Needless to say, after a lot of screaming and thumping on the walls, 10 minutes later, Julie comes to my rescue. Mind you, the noise was loud enough to wake the dead in Walhalla !!!! She throws open my door, standing there in what can only be described as centrefold clothing!! Decides that, the situation is too much to bear and walks back to her room. Eventually things settle down, and some people manage to be thrown into their rooms to get a couple of hours of sleep.

The sensible members of this group (only three of them) rise early enough for breakfast. The rest of us, slowly crawl into the scene of last night's disaster and try to re-assemble stories of what happened the night before. We eventually get our act together, Then it was onto the bikes and off to Walhalla again.

I must say, I have never seen a town like it. It is like time has stopped still. We have lunch (or breakfast for some), go to the cemetry and look around. Then it is off. We slowly limp back to Moe for a re-fuel stop and then seperate paths to go home.

In conclusion, this ride was nothing short of spectacular. I could sit here and rabbit on for hours, on the different encounters, tricks, laughs and ride banter we shared this weekend. But I dont think the page is long enough. As I said in the podcast, people will fall asleep reading this post.

A very memorable ride that will go down in my books as bloody awesome. A really big Thank you to Sumkun (and of course Hilary) who helped me put it together and pull it of so well. I would have been lost without your professional approach. Also to those that were involved who made it such a blast.
