I think you made the right choice too Rod. I've been in that situation before and came close to wiping myself out trying to keep up with faster riders.

Count your self lucky you can ride a bike like that at that pace all the time sorry this body cant and i was just about ready for a rest allready so i think i made the right choice.

I agree Pommie better Rod left when he did as he would have been way in over his head if he thought the 1st 40k of the trip was to fast.
Rod i'm not really having a go at you but i wish you said it was bike trouble. I'd be a bit embarrassed to say that 1st bit of pace was to much.
Ive taken out plenty of guys on that road before on all sorts of bikes & i dont know of anyone on any type of bike that has had a problem .
I dont rate myself as a good rider i have to work on it every ride.
I just dont know why you would have 2 busa's & dont use them.
Maybe it would have been a better idea to have some rider training to allow you to ride the bikes you have instead of another financial outlay which wont cure the problem. Better to have the skills & have a chance out there instead of hopeing for the best.
I know which way id would be spending the money.
just a thought
