Okay
I found the best way to go with this is a heat gun and an artists pallette knife. Tried the credit card and I got a new one coming next week as the old one melted. The knife is too blunt to gouge or scrape the plastic but has a good enough edge to pick up the decal. Pulling it off in strips is a bit of a non starter as it snaps real easy, only took an hour to do one side, saving the other side til tomorrow as I was losing the will to live scratching it off.
Thanks for the help and advice and I hope mine might help someone else. Some paint came away with the decal but no matter as it's all getting repainted anyway
