I would be betting you got the dreaded vapour lock.
Especially running 98 octane in hot weather.
I suggest you go back to 95 oct for the heatwave period and once again check your fuel lines for possible heat kinking Volvi.

I am surprised that this is the first time you've had it for a 99 bike.
