Shannons piking-out on insurance claim
#1
A mate of mine dropped his CBR at a "Circuit Breakers" Training day a few weeks ago. He fell on the warm up lap at very low speed. It was wet and cold and he was the 4th bike to go down on that lap!!!

Track was closed for about 3 hours after that.

He had gone to the trouble to contact Shannons a few days before and double-check whether they would cover the training day, explaining it wasn't just a track day. They agreed and,

Quote:" 'Chook' from Shannon's ...said that if we are insured with Shannons and have a Certificate of attendance, we are COVERED"

Shannons took his bike away after the incident, and now they are refusing his claim.

It may be worth a few of us who are insured with Shannons being aware of that. They also state they cover other things, like riding gear, etc... but it seems when somebody claims they do a back-flip.

I'll keep you posted on how it works out...

I also heard that their premiums had sky rocketed also I do believe after the first initial yr of insuring sport bikes they didnt relise how many actually crashed and they lost $$$ big time

Yup... I think you hit the hammer right on the head there Bill. Either it cost them more than they expected or the whole 'low premiums' thing was a ploy to get people in.

News came through yesterday that they are definitely not paying, so even after they had agreed to cover the Circuitbreakers Day, they changed their mind.

As a result my mate is taking legal action, and it's probably only a matter of time before they have to pay-up. In the meantime a dozen or so friends from the other forum and I are changing insurers...

Just thought I'd give you an update so you too can consider your options...

"Insuremyride" seems pretty darn good! Yes

Pan, did your mate have a written agreement with Shannons for insurance cover for the Circuitbreakers Day??

If not then could he ask to listen to the recorded conversation that took place where "Chook" from Shannons said he would be covered during Circuitbreakers Day.

Surely either way he must be covered as they record every single coversation when you call these days.

Love to know the outcome as I am currently insured with Shannons. Wtf
Cheers Taub

Hi Taub. He didn't have a written agreement, but his solicitor is (hopefully) chasing up the recording as we speak...

Update: it has become a legal issue... could take a while...

I just got off the phone with Shannons, Arista and WQBE

Quotes (for me):

Shannons: $834.96

Arista (My Bike Insurance): $670.90 (1300 274 782, www.aristaunderwriting.com.au)

WQBE: came in at $674, but did the "price match" thing and said it's $650 (1800 243464)

Needless to say, I just cancelled my current insurance with Shannons! What a relief!
