Sunday Ride sum-up
#1
17 Bikes showed up. While this was a great turn-out, there were quite a few who I had not counted. This means that almost 10 who said "yes, definitely" did not show, and most did not let me know. However, I think a few people only realised at the last minute that there were finned tin-tops racing around Albert Park. (And to the couple who did not show up because the weather didn't look promising - it was glorious, especially once through the spur).

Kylie - got your indirect message - thanks.

Paulh - sorry, did not see your message (come on, you did leave it at 3a.m. Sunday morning) - did you show up at the cross-roads? Next time, leave a message on my mobile. Hope you didn't spend too long waiting.

Bob - thanks for heading the ride up. Obviously, we were at the wrong spot, when you were waiting elsewhere

As usual, we hit the road a little later (waiting for those who weren't going to show ) But took it easy to Kinglake (wet patches and rippled road surfaces ensured we weren't breaking any land-speed records on that stretch).

Then, those lovely sweepers through to Healesville (and despite the crap all over the road, there were some dodgey passing moves to be observed )

OK, so we lost almost half the group at Healesville to "wanna get home for the Grand Prix" and other equally lame excuses, but the rest of us tore the Black Spur apart. For me, it was certainly one of the best runs I have ever had through there - not only was the weather absolutely spot on, but there were surprisingly few cars on the road (and not one caravan!)

My photos will be quite a while away (start of new film) but I hope someone has some ready real soon.

Cheers, everyone,

Richard

I would have been there if it had of been this coming weekend as thought, the long weekend Sunday is a bad day for me... I'm going to Phillip Island next month to the races so maybe I might see a few club members there... maybe hang around in melbourne for about 5 days as I have 2 weeks off then....

Sorry about that, I thought this was long weekend, too. (Grand Prix has been on the long weekend, generally, hasn't it?) In any case, does your time off co-incide with the Jindabyne meet?

It was nice to see so many busas together once again (and a few odd ringins as well), looks like the club is back on track and moving forward - great to see.

Lots of new faces and some old ones as well, real pity about those that couldn't show, if only to say hello.

I loved all the customised details on some of the machines.

I note that we have some very talented riders who can handle the beast superbly - Fast Freddy that's some riding you showed us back there - a 9.7 - I deducted .3 for mud-splattering and frightening the shit out of a few of the guys, otherwise it was very impressive indeed and if you touch my kill switch, I'll bite your finger

Great stuff boys!

Cheers
Les

I thoroughly enjoyed the ride up to Healsville (when I had to head home - hey I was lucky to get away for that long) Those long downhills between Kinglake and Healsville are a great place to crank up the beast.

As for some of those passing moves - I really think we have to deduct another full point from fast freddy cos he had to lean against Jim to get through that right hander...hmmmm ...... I suppose we could give him back about 0.3 for adept handling in the loose stuff off the bitumen, and another 0.2 for missing the roadside post......

Ok ok....only an overall dedction of 0.5 bringing the move back to an overall 9.2...

Still and all, everyone had fun and everyone survived.so it must have been a good day.

Thanks to everyone

Glad to see the great turn-up. I think each person found their own speed quite well. Thanks everyone. A special thanks to Shaun for being tail-end Charlie - I think the small amount of formality just adds a little security to a twisty dash through what are really fairly precipitous hills.

Pleased to hear you enjoyed the run through the Spur Richard - some of those smooth constant radius bends are perfect.

Would like to hear more about the Buxton Pub stop - and if good, would like to see another run out that way.

Too bad about the GP timing - priorities, priorities ....., greetings again to the new faces - and Fast Freddy, and BMac (my photos started a roll as well - it's up to you Bmac),

Hey Richard,

I ended up with 20 reasonable pics. Rather than scan just a few and email them, if you give me a ring I will send you the full set so you can post whichever ones you like.
