All bikes - the more the merrier. Just pass on the details, but please try to stress the importance of registering their interest with me for numbers for possible catering. Even better, if you could try and get an idea of numbers and let me know.

Include pillions when counting numbers... Edited by: demeester  at: 10/15/01 4:43:00 pm

Thanks to the two people who are unable to attend who have already contacted me to offer a donation to the cause. If there are others, contact me and we will make arrangements.

Can people see the proposed route as linked to above? I have been told by one person that they cannot get to it - I can, but it is in my photo album...

Sorry Richard, you misunderstood me. It was the link on your email that you sent me that wouldn't work. I just tried the link above and it works fine.

But now that I've seen the proposed route I'm even more bleeding that I can't go. Dam.

Additional meeting point for those coming from the west.

I am thinking about 9:45, but it is hard to be accurate...

How about the big roundabout on the other side of Geelong? There's a restaurant (or it used to be) on the far left hand corner (heading out of Geelong) so how about the car park

I can't picture a roundabout, maybe somebody can help me out here - is that where Anglesea road leaves the highway?

I have been told there is a Shell Servo there - Shell Servo at 9:45 Edited by: demeester  at: 11/16/01 1:01:31 pm

Thanks, everyone, who came!

The current total (including money from the raffle) is $770, and I know there are still a few more bucks rolling in.

When we turned up to the Westgate freeway, blue skies overhead, there were already well over a dozen bikes there. Greg brought Georgia along for the gathering (she's 6, right?) and she had a wonderful smile on as she surveyed the gathering of bikes.

By the time we rolled out, (close to 9:30) there were around 20 bikes, and in Geelong, we picked up another 3.

The road to Winchelsea is definitely Hayabusa territory - arrow shot from bow type highways, and despite some strong head and side winds, I believe that one or two bikes may still have gone a little over the speed limit. One rider commented "I can keep up comfortably into the low or mid 200's, but after that..." Actually, the whole group rarely got too spread out, with the longest wait for the tail end somewhere in the order of a minute or two.

We had some heavy rain through the Otways, but Skenes Creek and Apollo Bay were dry.

At lunch time, the raffle was drawn, and after eating, the group started to fragment. A few had commitments to return to Melbourne for, and headed off.

One bike from the remaining group, came to grief soon out of Apollo Bay, but an email to me this morning has confirmed that a bruised and battered rider will be OK, and no bones are broken.

(Actually, does anyone know who offered to go back and get a ute to come and pick him up? He really appreciated the gesture, and can't remember who they were!)

After coffees in Lorne, the group was reduced to 8 or 9 bikes for that terribly boring run from Geelong. Had we not had needs to get back to Melbourne, we would have joined others on the ferry and come back a far more interesting way.

Thanks to the businesses that donated raffle prizes! The raffle raised more money than the ride day, and the prizes that were generously donated, (including the minor prizes), were wonderful.

Once again, thanks everyone, and I will keep you all posted as to the final amount raised, and check the "raffle" topic for details of prize winners.

And on behalf of the club, a big Thank You goes to Richard for all his hard work and effort in making this a highly successful event. Richard and with the help of your lovely wife Joanne, you have contributed much to this club, and it's truly appreciated. We hope you may continue to do so for a long time to come. Your stuck with busas mate.

And Thanks again to those businesses and individuals who contributed those great prizes for the raffle. And from me personally, thanks to Kym for picking me out the hat enabling my Beast with a little work over.

Commiserations to he who came to grief, get well quickly and to your much loved baby.

Ouch!

Well guys it was an incredible day and would have ended in sheer bliss despite the early drenching, if I had not committed that one very painful unforced error.

It was a classic case of lapsed concentration, eyes off the line for a micro-second and coming to grief on 3/4 inch gravel.

The Rivet jacket ripped like paper, the armourless summer gloves disintegrated, helmet face destroyed, jeans.... well you know the rest.

Medically very very lucky, no broken bones, grazed, bruised, battered and torn.

Bike looks bad but nothing that a few grand won't fix.

I would like to thank all those who went out of their way to offer sympathy and help and in particular the two boys from Geelong who offered their ute to take me and my baby home.
Don't even know your names guys, but I was humbled by your caring and generosity.

I would also like to echo Volvi's comments about the tremendous effort that Richard and Jo contribute to this club. Good work!

Thank you all.

Les

G'day all,

I am a new member and the charity ride was my first with the club. I must say that I had a great time and it was fabulous to meet some of you "Busalodians".
No doubt sooner or later I'll get around to meeting the rest of you on the coming rides.
Good to hear you're O.K Busababy. You're Busa will scrub up O.K I'm sure.
I guess it was 1st time lucky for me winning the Ten Tenths package in Sydney. No doubt I'll put it to good use, probably early next year when I'm up that way.
Thanks to Richard and Jo for the planning and effort associated with the ride and the club in general.
Well done to everyone else involved also, that I haven't mentioned.
