Power Commander II
#1
Happy New Year to everyone !!

After my previous post about aftermarket exhausts I decided to buy a pair of Remus Grand prix, carbon fibre, oval exhausts
they look fantastic and they sound great.

Now I am looking at either remapping or fitting a
Power Commander II as I find I have lost some of the crispness of throttle I used to have (Damn)
I expected it to happen
to be honest it is not that bad but enough to annoy me.

So can anybody share their knowledge on the Power Commander II
How effective is the unit as it comes supplied ? I presume using its supplied map and its adjustability you can richen the mixture to find the best balance ?
or is adding a new map more of an option ?
what do they cost here in Aussie ?
what is the procedure to add a new map ?
Apart from the Power Commander site is there any other sites around with more info on the using ,setting and remapping of the unit ?
or is remapping the Suzuki ECU a better option
(the only drawback I see with this is that any changes you may make in the future might require a new remap)

Ride Safe

Brian, I raised that point in after market exhausts re PC2 to which JP replied who is a very reliable authority, if your looking for crispiness I would reccomend the air box mod, providing of course your bike has already been adjusted in the maps after your pipes. Depending where you are, I am happy to reccomend you to one who can do it.

Thanks Volvi yes I did read your post but no I have not yet remapped
I assume that the airbox mod alone would not return the lost crispness am I wrong ???
I would also have thought that if just changing the exhausts on a FI bike causes a slight leaness at low RPM the HP impovement must be gained nearly all through rev range when a remap is done
I am trying to decide whether an OEM remap is the best value or if the PCII is the way to go to allow changes thru out the bikes life
by the way I have not seen the details of the airbox mod could you recommend a site to check it out
because if this alone returns the crispness then I am quite happy to just use it

Thanks

Brian

I know bugger all about the PCII, so correct me if I am wrong but once the bike has been tuned to suit the exhaust, what benefit would the PCII add?

I have just put my bike in today for the 4-2-1 yoshi. The dealer has the Yoshi tuning box and says that this does the job and I don't need a PCII. Does anyone know if this is correct?

I'm also planning on a remapping (hi there Col!) I've noticed the lack of response in the throttle and been told that remapping is the answer. Soon as I get the money (and can face a trip to Sydney) I'm getting it done.

hi heidi

good move, col's the man to get it right for you and you can be sure that there wont be any bullshit there, also consider the airbox mod at the same time, it makes a serious difference,,

Hi Brian,

Sorry for the late reply, I cant advise you about mapping as I dont have a PC2 and from what I have learned so far it's not a necessary item for a rider but rather for those that map on a regular basis. I would suggest you have the bike mapped once by a reputable mechanic.

With regards to the airbox a great source of info is available at Martins site here is the link, hope it helps.

www. p.com/Hayabusa/HayabusaMods.htm

I cant post the proper link coz ezboard has an emotion the same as the web address so where you see the little yellow face place the numeral eight followed by an althebetical o so you should have 8 followed by op Edited by: Volvi  at: 1/8/01 8:37:29 pm

G'day one and all,

Well it's been a while since i replied but sometimes a holliday is necessary. Only started back today.

If you have a standard Busa, say with either a set of mufflers or a full system and air box mod, then no more than a standard remap is required.

The PC2 is usefull if your mods go further, however, you will need to spend plenty of time on a eddy current dyno to justify the possible potential. Then again I suppose a gain of some sort is possible even with a standard bike, but the cost would out dollar the initial PC2 out lay. The gains in my opinion don't warrent it.

G'day Heidi, am back at work now, so give me a call when you wish. No, I did'nt go racing.

Les, I'd like to mail you a dyno chart. Been thinking about your charts and would like to make a few comments to you. Give me a mail if your interested.

The Busa tuning day is still on and looks like being in mid feb. It got bigger than Ben Hur when I started getting into it. Will be posting more by the end of this week.

Regards Col

Hi there Col, good to have you back. I'm off for a regular service tomorrow, but I am coming to play with you in the next month (don't worry, I'll give lots of warning and try to make it a weekday).

See you soon

Hi all,

ok it looks like remapping of the Oem computer it the way to go

So what is the cost I should expect in Perth $100.00 ?

How long does it take ?

Can I preserve the original map (if I ever want to return the bike to stock or is it available on the net ?).

Old Cahn suggested Greg at Thoroughbred Motorcycles for the remapping in a previous post (thanks for that by the way)
does anybody know of anyone else ?.

G'day Brian,

Greg at Thoroughbreds does charge $100 to re-map and that includes up to 4 or more runs on the eddie current dyno. A bargain I reckon.... considering it is $45 for a "power run" only.

Alternatives are Witch Cycles - they have a dynojet dyno and Yoshi box
Supercycles - (mainly specialising in Harleys - but a top guy) dynojet dyno not sure if he can re-map though.

Sorry I am not aware of any others in WA

Hope this helps.
