I`ve heard about&read that taking teeth `off`the front sproc as opposed to putting it`on`the rear causes a lot more wear on the chain.Makes sense when you consider the chain`s running round a much tighter loop and kind of kinking.

You ain`t kiddin`,Aerocat...WARP SPEED...what a rush,eh? On one of those really fast runs, you see a vehicle up ahead. You line him up to pass from about 1km away.Turns out its old farmer Zeek potterin`along at about 80kmh,in his ute full of hay-bales.You WARP past him at 290.You can only imagine the look on his face. Would have been priceless!! Poor ol` timer, probably still quivering to this day,2yrs later.

Ahh! The good ol` daze. Today,I s`pose,I just have to make do with an absolutely shit-load of torque/thrust/mid-range mumbo to get my rush happenin`. .....but then again...

Similar situation down my way Peter.Wall to wall HOONMOBILES (WRXs)
They pull up next to you & rev the shit out of the donk. You can`t hear the $$$$ exhaust coz the $$$$$$$ stereo & 200 speakers are pumping out 40,000 decibels.Everyone`s ears, within a radius 2km,begins to bleed. You look over & you just don`t know whether to laugh or cry.You cry coz the thumping of the bass has penetrated your helmet & ear-plugs & is about to burst your ear-drums.You take off like a scalded cat.Not because you want to,but because you`re desperately seeking relief from the pounding in your head!!
Sad...really sad!

A mate of mine did what you described a few years back on his GSXR 750.........tried to pass farmer Joe in his ute on contry road at 250kmh+. Only problem was he turned into his paddock on the right without indicating. Didn't look I guess or maybe he didn't expect something coming up that quick. My mate was lucky..........only lost 1 leg

But hey, shit happens.............

I was talkin to a few guys at calder...some of those skylines etc aren't exactly slow...one bloke said he took pleasure in wasting bikes who got cocky...I'd love to see 'em do it too... with some skylines running low 11's and VL's running easy 10's not many bikes or moreso riders will put up a decent show ...

I agree that there are many quick cars out there. Used to live near a 10 second VL turbo.

But there are only a few who are able compared with the hundreds that are dreaming.

Still remember the first day I picked up the Busa. The previous bike was a 250 and I was wasted by only 3 cars - a wrx (very, very, very not stock), a VN SS, and a BMW Z3.

Cars, especially all-wheel-drive models, will still have a standstill grip advantage, and Skylines/wrx's take off like bullets. Roll-ons are no hassle, but it's more about timing/gear selection that will win it in the short term.
Need to practice my standstill takeoffs.

Bigshow... whats the best way to get a quick takeoff?

I have much appreciation/respect for a car/driver who can out-sprint a bike. But I keep telling everyone, quarter mile isn't everything. 95% of the cars out there only dream about hitting 250km/h, let alone reaching 300. And to make a car go fast in a straight line is easy, but braking and cornering seem often forgotten. Vehicles shoud be developed/modified for all round ability, not just to out sprint at a set of lights.

Depending on how confident/skillfull you are there are many good ways to take off from a standstill. The 2 ways i do it wont ruin the clutch and are pretty easy to do with the busa's back torque clutch.

1st way is easier which is get the revs to about 2000-2500 rpm and loose the clutch a little to take up the slack. (nb. i hold the clutch with my index and middle fingers while my thumb, ring and little fingers are gripping the bar) I then let the clutch out moderately fast but not too fast and at the same time really roll on the throttle. This method wont hurt the clutch and uses the busa's low end to help with take offs. I doubt it will work very well on a 600 though

2nd way should get a quicker start but takes more skill - Hold the revs about 4000rpm then slip the clutch as i roll on the throttle, too much can cause cause a wheelie off the line or the rear tyre to spin up. If you get it right you should get a really good fast take off. I have heard of some who like to really rev it up around 6-8K rpm but all you will do is burn out your clutch really fast for no real gain.

And what is a 10 second car worth? If we spent that much on the busa 300 would be nothing...

And about the tyre rating...tyre manufacturers will have a safety factor of at least 2, so the tyres will be designed for and are good for 600kph at least.

Last time i went out to the drags(and my first time),i pulled a 10.2sec@138mph,and all my runs were about the same.i reccon if i put a 43 sprocket on the back i might be able to pull high 9s

Rev yeah I'm not surprised about the early gixxers...I was referring more to run what u drove to the track cars...the VL record is a couple of tenths under 8 seconds these days

What viking said re takeoffs...
although 6-8grand with a stock clutch is just freakin psycho
the easiest way to get good launches is just practice...practice...and a clutch mod.

Bee I agree re tyre manufacturers and safety margins...although those dunglop race tyres have been exploding a bit lately ie AMA and BSBK...

G u probably could pull a 9 second pass even without the 43 tooth...launching the 43 takes a bit of getting used to (I couldn't keep the f**ker down ) U going next meet?

I've had a bit of success on the busa starting off in second - not as violent as third and gets you up to speed REAL quick. What do you reckon Bigshow?

I don't think 2nd gear takeoffs would be very fast, there's nothing like that 1st gear rush and wheelie as the power comes on. Btw i have only done a 6000 rpm launch once and the front flew up on take off so fast and high and i have never done it since (frightened the shit outta me). Although I've never actually been to the drags, i do practice a lot at the lights.

Does the clutch mod make that much diff? I heard it does but have never ridden a busa with it done. Might be worth doing once this clutch needs replacing. Was planning to go to Heathcote for the monthly bike drags where you pay about $50 and get around 30 timed runs. Getting a bit cold now so will probobly leave it to spring.

Would anyone be interested if i tee'ed up a ride and drag day there?
