XX Replacement; Busa or FJR?
#1
Hi

I'm new to this discussion board and usually handout at the CBR1100XX forum. I live in Wellington New Zealand and ride my XX every day to work and back. In weekends I like to blast up and down the Rimutaka hill, hell it would be a mountain in Aussie, with all the other mad bikers doing the same.

I love the Bike but have issues with the linked brakes [linked brakes and loose gravel don;t mix well ] and the 1 suspension setting suits all approach Honda have taken.

I have two options - to go more touring and if so the FJR1300 would be my choice although I don't get that upright riding position.

My preferred choice is a Hyabusa. I like the riding position, a little more R1'ish than the XX but still in many ways a similar concept to the XX. What I'm intersted in is reliability. The dudes on the CBR1100XX forum seemed a little biased when I siad a Busa may be my next bike, and clained no Busa has gone past 25,000 miles without a major breakdown. personally I think they are just pissed that the Busa owner can play with his suspension without pulling his bike appart, and go faster, and faster, and more economically than the XX.

So any one want to re-assure me? If I do go for a Busa it will be the Silver and Black one although it may not be from my local dealer unless they get a lot smarter.

I've always had Hondas, although I've almost brought a Suzuki twice. 1st was a GSX750F 3 year ago but after taking the deposit on the Friday I was ignored for 4 hours on the Saturday and asked to come back Monday to sign the paper work - instead I went to Honda and brought my 1st Blackbird. 2nd was when the Blackbird was nicked I decided to get a new Bandit, but the same dealer wouldn't sell at EITHER currently advertised price so I went up to Honda, got $5000 off a new Blackbird and brought number 2 for just over the price of a Bandit 1200.

Thanks

f***...25000miles.. I've got to 50000kms on my first Busa and 40000 on the second. Done buggerall bare minimum maintenance, cept for oil which i'm a bit overzealous about, and never had anything go wrong at all...
60k on my RF and 75k on the GSXR11 ... not a thing wrong with any of them

so...they talk shit.

Go the Busa...

Thanks Paul.

Comments like yours are what I am expecting to hear.

I saw a photo of that 2003 copper coloured busa - now THAT would look good in my garage!

thanx jamie, was hoping that you would answer with support ..

and the bottom line is...... NO ONE here is gunna say any different despite the couple of hiccups that have cropped up with design flaw characteristics, the busa is an awesome machine and to date there is nothing out there (in its class) that even comes close to it in looks, comfort, performance and handling and now, longevity.....

here is my 2c

... or they're just pissed off that Honda claimed to make a 300km/h bike, but fell short

Go the 'Busa.... you won't regret it.

... and the Black / Silver rocks !!

Agree with all the above. I always used to be a Honda man, hell I even appear on the HRCA brochure that they hand out. Last few bikes were ST1100's and got the Copper Busa back in '99. Now 43.000 k's later the bike still thrills me, what a bike have never been interested in changing for any other bike other than perhaps another Busa. Not only is it a good sport performer but tourer too. I rode the Busa to Sydney in 1 hit of 1000 odd k's, with my ST1100 I split the trip. I still dont understand how I was fine doing that trip on the Busa in one hit. Busa still rules.

Honda make an excellent machine but a busa is a busa. All it took for me to buy a Busa was a 10min test ride and I was hooked. Get yourself a ride on one!! (and yeah the black silver looks shit hot!!)

Test rode the FJR1300 a year ago. If you like BMW's, youll like it. Power was shithouse. Smooth delivery (shaft drive) but thats about it.

I've had a test ride of the FJR1300 and felt that it was too slow in the turns, and far too upright.

I've scratech the FJR as an option.

I've located a 2002 Blue/Black Busa done 3000k with Corbins hard luggage for NZ 17,995. Does this sound like an good option?

Otherwise I may wait till Ocotber when I a pay off the XX.

Look in the buy/sell/swap forum for an indication of pricing (in AUD, anyway)
