Speed camera locations...

I can not in any way verify the accuracy of this information.

I am a little dubious about the "elapsed time" Geelong road cameras as I thought these were shelved for the time being. Of course, the government will not intervene to suppress rumours that they are there and work.

Quote:Combination Speed and Red light cameras
Cnr Orrong and Dandenong Rd Caulfield, very active and Alexandra Pde and Smith St Fitzroy, just before the Eastern Freeway not to forget Stud Rd and
Wellington Rd cnr. Rowville.
The red light camera on Swan St Bridge and Alexanrda Ave opps Myer Music Bowl has been repaired as I have noticed recently.

New permanent Speed cameras
On the Monash Freeway, 600m before entering the tunnel heading towards the city. It's hidden behind an overhead road sign.(80kph).
Even though this one is openly publicised by the media and the state government, it continues to catch over 700 drivers per day!

Westgate Freeway - Princes Highway
On the top of the Westgate Bridge.
Hoppers Crossing overpass
At the first Werribee exit.
At the Little River exit.
Point Cook overpass.
At Point Wilson overpass.
At Corio
Just before you arrive at the Waterslide in Geelong. (Norlane)

Note: These are elapsed time trigger cameras, they estimate your average driving speed between checkpoints. Slowing down before each overpass will not fool them.
All these cameras are positioned in both the inbound and outbound lanes and tricky to see.
If you did 10kph over the speed limit all the way from Melbourne to Geelong, you can expect up to $125 fine on each one and the loss of 1 demerit point. Each camera is able to book cars doing even 5k's over the limit.

Western Ring Road
Boundary Road - Laverton North.
Western Highway - Ardeer.
Calder Freeway - Keilor East
Tullamarine Freeway - Tullamarine.
Pascoe Vale Road - Glenroy.
Widford Street - Glenroy
High Street - Thomastown.

Soon to be operational
Eastern Freeway - 5 more cameras.
Monash - 5 more.
Calder Freeway - 9 more cameras, from Keilor to Kyneton.
Hume Highway to Albury - 11 cameras.
Camera locations still under consideration
Western Highway - Ardeer to Ballarat.
South Gippsland Highway - Dandenong to Phillip Island.
Goulburn Valley Highway - Seymour to Shepparton.
Princes Highway - Pakenham to Traralgon.

Also being considered are Mount Alexander Road, Nepean Highway, Dandenong Road, Burwood Highway, Sydney Road, Springvale Road and Ferntree Gully Road.

Be aware most fixed cameras take the photo from the front. Not all but most.

re: western ring locations, there are 4 camera sites in each direction. There are no cameras at high st. thomastown and the tullamarine freeway, there are warning signs there though...

I'm actually glad to disappoint you on this one..as current technology stands, there is no way to operate an elapsed time camera yet, unless they're operating off e-tags and haven't told anybody, then it would only be those vehicles with them that got done. Think about this..an elapsed time camera would have to photograph EVERY vehicle that passed through it, then would have to RECOGNISE the same vehicle(s) as they passed through the next camera and so on..or they'd have to employ a hundred or so people to look through EACH and EVERY photograph and date/time sequence..big brother may be watching..but he ain't that smart yet... To the last I will grapple with thee; from Hell's heart I stab at thee; for Hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

And although I shouldn't say this..it basically means open slather on the Princes Hwy/Geelong Road...just keep your eyes open for the usual vehicle-mounted fixed cameras and the Road Nazi's along the way..those cameras on top of the Westgate Bridge etc..are traffic monitoring cameras...used for Radio Station traffic reports and road conditions and such..they don't normally record unless a VicRoads operator presses the button back in his office..and this could only be used if you were riding dangerously ie cutting in and out of traffic in an overly zealous manner they are NOT speed cameras, but it has been known in the past (very rarely, admittedly) that the VicRoads dude has a look at what's happening on his cameras and calls the coppers... To the last I will grapple with thee; from Hell's heart I stab at thee; for Hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

It's great to know where they are but who can remember them all ? For car drivers there is that device you can buy that incorporates a program that warns you
using Global Positioning System technology based on fixed camera location co-ordinates. No good for mobile camera cars though.

But at least it is a back up to guard against lapses in concentration at critical times like we all have from time to time & getting booked by a camera that you know is there but have forgotten about is a real downer.

Rev - the device you talk about is a "Road Angel" and I was told that they keep them up to date (i.e. if someone reports a mobile speed camera location, then it gets loaded into the system for a period of time, so it should give "SOME" protection). And of course, it wont tell you where a cop with a mounted radar is driving...

I found a few times lately when going thru a few of those overhead speed checkers that when I sit at 120km/h, it displays 112km/h, and when I sit at 110km/h the display reads 103km/h as well. At least I know when I sit on 110-120, I know I'm not too much over the limit..... just like to think that I am!!!!

With the road angel from memory U have to pay a yearly fee to keep them updated.

Interesting Demeester, for mobile locations I assume it wouldn't be accurate to the same tolerance as is possible because the reporter doesn't know the map reference unless he has GPS in his car with a facility to
bring up the actual co- ordinates if that's possible.

Some warning is better than none on the mobile problem
so it might be worth a look as the fixed location system is very good I've heard & I'd just love to ring a number & dob the bastards in like you can with FM radio.

I have heard that the busa speedo has a 8% error, i went thru a checker at 100 and it read 92 so that confirmed it for me.

This is what you're talking about

www.roadangel.com.au/

Subscription is $95 per year but the first year is free. At close to $1K outlay, it would want to be.
I guess if you do a bit of touring and are unfamiliar with the raods it may be valuable. The nicest feature is that "black spots" are programmed in as well. I would suggest that they would include known mobile camera haunts, but that's just my devious mind ;-)
