Having had a great weekend at the supers, on my ride home l took to the back roads to avoid the cops they all seem to be
on the main road.
I turn off towards pakenhan were there is a long strait (so what do you do? what the BUSA does best) But did'nt expect
a cop to come out from a farm track Black Senator HSV...
He got me at 137...He said he did me a favour and knock 2k off, or it would have been not 1 month but 6 months...
4 points $265 fine and l'm not sure how many points l've got
on my licence...just can't seem to pick up the phone, But guess l'll find out soon then later.

...risky manoeuvre, but as they say...'risk equals return'
I know a guy who got done for six months who pulled over when he didn't really have to...4yrs since, he hasn't been 'pulled over' again

I arrived in Oz early last year, and in a two month period picked up four tickets - three by camera and one at a red light. A cop also breath tested me around the corner to where I live. I was on the bike for thirty seconds!

Then the mechanic shoots a camera while testing my bike and I get a notice for him too. Luckily, I haven't had to pay any of them, but is this what I to expect?

Rumour has it, that if you forward a cheque to the relevant police infringement processing bureau for a couple of dollars more than the ticketed price, then they will send you a refund cheque. DON'T CASH IT (therefore don't pay too much more) that way it never gets fully finalised as a speeding/infringement transaction; you pay the money but keep the points! Voila!!!!!!!!

I haven't personally tried this, so if it doesn't work for you, don't blame me.

Hey, I trtied the above 'trick' back when I lost my licence in Dec/Jan and it didn't work. $5 extra, never got it back, and my points are most certainly on my licence. [Checked and all] Got 2 nice letters from Vicroads informing me and asking for my licence too.

IMO, don't bother trying the extra $$ trick. Save it for yourself

cheers,

I'd doubt it. Not for 1 month. I got done for 12 months... Still don't really understand why they wanted my licence back. I lost it, so I was unnable to send it [card] in.

I don't know what you could do in a month, but any $$ U'd spend on the bike normally [fuel etc] U can save and buy stuff for it...

Although public trransport for me costs as much as the fuel for the bike in a given month. ( [so saving nothing there]

Have fun when you get back on it.

I miss riding.

OK..here's a little inside info..speaking PURELY hypothetically, you understand...
Oh..all this relates to Victoria ONLY

Static speed cameras seem to be the biggest bugbear..solution..move rego label up over plate. If caught by police you stand to cop a $110.00 fine and three points.
Speeding fines; either camera or copper...b/t 1 - 10 km/h over...$125.00 and 1 point... 10 - 25 km/h over $200.00 and 3 points..25 - 35 km/h over $265.00 1 month suspension, 4 points..35 - 45 km/h over $360.00, 6 month suspension, 6 points...45 or more over..$430.00, 12 month suspension, 8 demerit points.
Alright..a copper in a car..even the Traffic Managemnt Unit SS's and XR 8's, once he's got you with a laser/radar, has to get from a standing start to catch you over time and distance. If you've been done on a moving-mode radar (police car coming the other way) he'll have to slow down, do a U-turn and then try to catch up to you. If you decide to run, a pursuit will more than likely be called off...especially if the speeds are excessive, this can depend on traffic conditions, who's chasing you etc. Keep in mind not even the mighty 'Busa can outrun a police radio, and the police helicopter (if available) can cruise at 140 knots (260 km/h) for 200 minutes and has a top speed of 195 knots (360 km/h). Also it doesn't have to slow down for corners, or even take corners for that matter. All they need to get is your rego number and then they'll catch up with you later. Also keep in mind that if you are caught after a pursuit, there will not just be the speeding charges to face. You could face charges of Conduct Endangering Life (this includes your own), Dangerous Driving charges (any of which could put you in Gaol) and you'll probably cop a flogging when they catch you too.
It's up to you to weigh up the consequences of your actions and to take responsibility for them. Here endeth the lesson...

Are you 'in the job' blue centurion??

re fine trick, I tried the same deal years ago and all that happened was civic compliance pocketed the extra cash...never even sent a refund the cheeky pricks .

re licence suspensions, I've never sent my licence in and nothing ever came of it, bit like jury duty...the resources aren't there to enforce it.

let me just qualify...yes I'm still in the job..been doing it for just iver 8 years now...half that time as TOG/TMU Road Nazi..and if I lose my licence due to a speed camera fine..I'm more shit than a Werribee duck with the explaining I gotta do...not to mention the paperwork..

The other day I stopped for a friendly chat with my local speed camera operator type person & enquired as to why I had never seen that car or any others like it parked within cooee of the local accident black spots.

The answer was "because the locals have been complaining about speeders" Heeyeah right, of course they have !

When you've got a hole in the state budget big enough to sail the Titanic through then the dough has to come from somewhere, right? but it's all in the interest's of road safety of course.

The coffers must be pretty much empty to make old Bracks do a u turn on a core election promise re tolls methinks !!
