Cops chase motorcyclist for 400km
Monday, 3 October 2005

AFTER a lengthy chase by various highway patrol officers on the Mid-North Coast a man has been charged following an alleged hit-and-run left a police officer in hospital.
The incident, which resulted in Port Macquarie police joining the chase, started about 8.30am on Saturday when a male police officer was hit by a speeding motorbike on the Pacific Hwy at Coffs Harbour.

Police said two highway patrol officers detected the motorbike speeding in the highway's southbound lanes and a male senior constable directed it to pull over.

"However, it allegedly failed to stop and struck the officer," a police spokesman said.

The injured policeman was taken by ambulance to Coffs Harbour Hospital suffering a broken leg.

He underwent surgery and was understood to be in a satis- factory condition, the police spokesman said.

The motorcyclist, driving a Suzuki 2000 model GSXR600, who failed to stop after the incident, was later seen travelling south on the Pacific Hwy by Macksville police.

Port Macquarie police caught sight of the rider at Dennis Bridge just north of Port and took chase at high speeds but were unable to find a safe break in traffic. They saw the rider turn right onto the Oxley Hwy, allegedly travelling at speeds of more than 200km/h.

Armidale police eventually stopped and arrested the 20-year-old Queensland motorcyclist about 4pm.

It was found he was driving with a disqualified licence and had appeared in Grafton Local Court on September 19 in relation to other matters involving the disqualification of his licence.

He was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, assaulting an officer on duty, driving at a dangerous speed, exceeding the speed limit and disqualified driver/ rider charges.

He was refused bail and will face an Armidale Court tomorrow. Regards Bill

Lucky for the Hwy copper that the young bloke wasn't riding a Busa Firstly he would not have survived the hit and secondly he would gottin away cause the speeds would have frightened the shit out of the coppers. Cheers,

Bloody good fuel economy if he was doing over 200 Ks/hr and was chased for 400ks. Pity he only broke the parasites leg.

He's giving motorcyclists a bad name guys.

We can do without that.

We as a club shouldn't condone that type of behaviour on a public forum.

I'm with GDY on this one. The guy sounds like a dead-set goose; the kind that rides selfishly, eventually to his own death or to the death of a mate that would follow him. You may not like cops when you get booked, but have you tried being one (scrapping bodies off the road, stopping parents from belting each other while the little kids are watching, putting drug pushers in prison for selling to 12 year olds and then seeing the offenders on the streets a week later... )?

I'm not conding all cops behaviour, but in this scenario I certainly wouldn't be in support of the GSX600 rider.

Wouldn't mind visiting the loser in prison

You can understand a guy "wanting" to ride with a suspended licence but I would never condone anyone riding or driving without a licence. Unfortunately there are too many doing it.
After that little episode WE WILL ALL have to live with the increased police attention around the North coast and especially around the Oxley HWY.

I bet if the copper hadn't walked into the middle of the road to try and stop the guy, he wouldn't have been hit in the first place.

But now he will join the ranks of the 400+ NSW police on sick leave.
I bet that unlike the drug dealers, burglars and thugs, this guy will get prison time.

Trouble these days is with all the flash cameras it's the Mums and Dads (Mr & Mrs law abiding citizen) that are driving unlicenced.

By the time some of these average people realize, they have enough points to tip them over the edge!

Bottom line, it fugen sucks.......

I don't think I'd step out to stop a speeding motorcycle (If that happened)

Right on with the prison time! Bash little old ladies, rob people. Suspended sentence???
Ride/drive unlicenced, do jail time??? Go figure? (Unless your constantly pissed etc...)

Your right as well Buggsy about bringing undue attention etc... We don't want it! We don't need it! We can do without it. And as a club sometimes we have to keep our feeling to ourselves. (f***, listen to me )

Ride safe guys. We Victorians want to meet all you guys in Dec...

Cheers,

I have just one point to make here. Who do you think brought in Speed Cameras? Who gets an income from Speed Cameras? I can assure you that the cops don't get anything out of it. In fact, most cops don't like the dam things either, they have no discretion. If you want to bag someone about speed cameras, try the politicians, not the cops who have to do a job that most wouldn't even consider.

As far as the moron who thinks it's fun to get into high speed pursuits, some day he may have the misfortune to come across a fatal accident. Unfortunately though, before he learns hois lesson, theres the chance that either he will be the fatality, or he will cause it. I hope they lock him away and don't let him out till he grows a brain, which will probably be never!

Tom, spoken like someone who truly has no idea. If you know any cops, try having a chat with them, contrary to popular belief, they are human.
