Now this is a slightly unusual question, but how long can one expect a Hyabusa engine to last without a rebuild? Naturally I would be referring to an engine which has been fully maintained and undergone regular servicing with quality oil etc, and ridden by lets say, the average rider?
I suppose Busa's haven't been around long enough in order to judge their engine longevity, but it would be nice to have some idea.
I have a friend who owns a Kawasaki GT 1000. Although it is a fairly placid sort of machine, he hasn't spent a cent on it and it has travelled over 110,000 kms!!
I notice in the Hyabusa registry, there is one with over 50,000 kms on the clock in the USA.
What do you reckon??? <i></i>
Ive done 67 thou my 99 busa with the only the reg
service done and still going strong. <i></i>
i've heard that the engine is so well put together its good for over 300,000 kays, provided it's serviced regularly <i></i>
300000? Thats a lot. I think you could be pushing it. My GPZ1100 (95) has got 154000 on it and everything is origional. But its starting to burn some oil and other repairs are on their way. Im about to buy a bus and hence im reading here to find out what to expect. If I can get another 150000 I'll be happy. <i></i>
G'day Guys,
The life span of a Busa is as long as a piece of string. Any motor is the same. Treat it well and it will look after you, abuse it, then be open with your wallet.
If a busa was run in well, serviced as required and a good quality oil used, then it should last to say 200,000 km. The biggest killer of motors is too much RPM before they reach operating temp.
One other item of interest, do service the air filter as the ram air pickups all sorts of crap. This will only help in the long run.
Regards Col <i></i>
The bus engine is a "strong build" and not taxed in some ways like other engines are. May I suggest though that the best way to maintain or ensure longivity is to change the oil yourself in between the 'shop services', its cheap and it does not take long.
Skuzzy
oh buy the way I would be supprised if the Bus was not still providing transport with 180 - 200,000 on the clock <i></i>
I have a 1990 GSX750F and it has 105,000 on it and they have not been kind k's at all.Why have a rev limiter if it is not going to be used?
There is a guy in Sydney who owns 2 panel shops,1 in Woolongong and 1 in Newcastle. He travels between them on his 99 busa a few times a week and he had 145,000 last time I saw him.To date his only problem has been stripped threads on the fork legs when some idiot did his calipers up with a rattle gun. <i></i>
I currently own a 92 VFR750 which ive owned 4 ,8 years. Its got 165,000 kays on it and still doesnt use a drop of oil between changes. Being a mechanic i religously change oil&filter every 5000ks. Ive seen the light and am buying a busa......Ive also seen the power graphs.....Goooodbye licence. Being a much larger torquier motor i would expect at least 200000kms with no problams. See ya on the road. PS...Ive always used synthetic oil with no clutch problems. <i></i>
