American's had a two wheel drive bike very similar to that called the Rockon trail breaker.... the wheels were hollow allowing it to float and then could be filled with water to give it better traction...dont know how the front drive worked though

If i remember correctly Yamaha did a wr450 2 wheel drive for the Paris Dakar and it placed second in its class.

Yamaha's two wheel drive was great, David fretene raced it in a few dakars 450vs 690/950s and did a great job. When the rear started spinning a motor pumped oil driving the front translating the spinning energy to drive. Great simple tech
