Drive Chain.

Hi. Fitted Scottoiler to Busa, after about 100 km the chain started to make some strange noises, Im hoping that the flow of the fresh oil has washed away all the old oil and crap. And the noises are because the chain is looser.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

No I didn't clean the chain before fitting the oiler.

Sounds a bit fishy, shouldn't make any new noises.
I'd be checking that something isn't rubbing, then I'd be cleaning the chain right up so I could tell that the oiler is delivering the right amount.

Why would the chain be looser all of a sudden? How much old oil & crap was on the chain to start with??????

Thanks, found rub point on chain. Fresh oil on chain had allowed chain to move left into chain guard. It's a 2003 and had not seen fresh oil. Plugs. Or filters for a while. Only bought it recently and trying to bring it back up to standard. Lots of little things to do. Yes the chain was that dirty. Thanks again

Scottoiler; fine & dandy, maybe you'll get a bit more life out of the chain & sprockets. But hey, put a new chain on & 2 new sprockets, & 2 new sprockets everytime you change the chain. When the chain breaks & kills ya cause you though you'd get a few extra miles out of it, good on ya. Chains & Sprockets are CONSUMABLES. Cans of Super Duper Teflon Chain Lube are cheap, so is Kero from your local supermarket. There is a hell of a load on a Busa Chain & Sprockets, a bit more than an R1 piece of shi*.

Did you even clean the chain before you fitted the scottoiler or did you just fit it and have fresh oil going over the already imbedded old oil and crap in the hope this will help the chain, fresh oil wont clean the old stuff out to do that probably you need to clean it then start with the scottoiler.
SPEED ISN,T EVERYTHING BUT IT SURE IS FUN.

fresh oil or not the chain should not change running position, i would look harder in that area, wheel alignment , bearings, drive hub fit, front sprocket nut
broken chains also take out parts of the motor as they leave

Had chain & sprockets checked at roadworthy, all came up fine, am looking to change them all out, as previous owner installed different cogs to give him faster acceleration.
Scottoiler initially delivered far too much oil but is now setup right.

p/s. once had the front cog come of a GS850 doing 110. fortunately it sat on the shaft till I came to a halt. so I am very cautious when it comes to chains, rattles and squeeks.

Thanks for all the good advice, Problem found, 2 days after fitting the oiler one of the rollers on the joiner link broke. So its just a matter of getting a new joiner fitted. ( of course this was found 7 mins after all the bike shops closed).

Personally I'd invest in a new chain and sprocket set and forget about it.
