Pilot Power 3s

Hi all, just purchased a set of PP3s to try out on my k6 1000. Has anyone had any time on these yet. If so, what is the verdict. Thanks, Paul.

I have a set on my spare B-King wheels.
Only scrubbed them in and did a few hundred K's
so can't really judge how they will wear with mileage.
Felt as good as my current Sportmax Sportsmarts.
Changed my Busa, B-King and GSX14 to 190/55 rears.

Thanks for the info, Have tried heaps of tyres and kept going back to the PP2cts. Can't wait to see if the 3s are even better as the sales hype suggests. Usually run the PP2cts on the gen 2 as well but rear tyre life is bugger all. I am running the 190/55s as well, however eventually want to try a 180/55 sports tyre on the rear of the 1000. This is common practice now with the fellows racing litre bikes at Jurby on the Isle of Mann. They state that their lap times are the same on the 180s. I am no racer but it will be interesting to see if i can notice any difference. Have a blast, Paul.

I got over 14,000 kms out of my PR2's on my GSX1400 it's the work bike so hard accel everywhere and Michelin say that the PR3's have 20% more wear life. PR2's for dry grip and PR 3's for the wet edge. And ill say this for certain. In our group there is a blackbird, and he's always near the front, never seen him falter in the wet whatso ever, or the dry, and the water dispersion is unbelievable...they just leave a dry patch on the road in the wet unlike any tyre I've ever seen...

I love the PP3s. Had Pilot Road 2 and PP2 combo a couple of times and would get maybe 8k each time. The PP3s are still going well at 11k of fast and real fast riding. Should hit 12k before replacing. Hang on at all angles and great in the wet. Will go again with them.

Thanks mate, just confirming you are talking about the new pilot power 3s and not the road 3s.Paul.

No Cndemgum. I have the Pilot Power 3's front and back. Can't believe how good they are. The Busa feels real stable through the corners and i run them on 42psi front and rear. Good grip right to the edge. Happy days.

Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to trying them. They have been stuck at some DHL yard in Sydney for almost 2 weeks. I won't be buying rubber from Kelly's tyres again. Paul.

Just got home from 2 blasts down and back up the Oxley. New 190/55 pilot power 3 on the rear of my k6 gsxr1000. Very first impression, different. Not a bad sort of different but took a little getting used to. Lateral grip, very good, probably better than pp2cts. I think the pp2cts provide better feed back but having said that on 30 or more occasions i deliberately got on the gas very early out of corners to try and provoke some sort of response and it just didn't happen. Went through heavy rain for about 30ks on the open section east of Walcha. Under heavy acceleration and braking the pp3 has the goods on the pp2ct in the wet. Didn't get the opportunity to test the wet weather cornering. First impressions, don't run a 55 series on a busa. Generally a fan of the 190/55s but with the pp3s your knee is on the ground well before you reach the slick portion of the tyre and the front tyre is already out to the edge. The 190/55 is extremely crowned. Probably great for track days but wasted even on very aggressive street running. For those that are into the looks of their bike the 190/55 looks skinny because of how steeply crowned it is. First impressions, probably a step up from the pp2ct and probably a very suitable tyre for the busas. If i eventually fit pp3s to the genII i will fit a 50 series to the rear. Will keep a tab on how well they wear in comparison to the pp2ct. Just what i found, interested in what others think. Have a blast, Paul.Very Happy

I just switched from Pilot Power Pure 2CT to Pilot Power 3's. Massive difference. The PP3's instill so much more confidence in corners, and i think have a far superior grip.

Yeah, just double checked that Dale. Statically laid the bike over to the edge of the rear and with the 55 series the bike is almost on it's side. You would be going very hard on the street to use the whole tyre. I did not explain it well but my actual point was that using a 50 series would allow you to benifit from the soft/slick portion of the tyre much more often. On top of that i was only running 32psi in the rear so a person who prefers the higher pressures would increase the crowning of the tyre even further. All the best, Paul.Very Happy

Just an update after lots of hot runs up and down the Oxley on the PP3s. IMO if you are purely looking at performance only, the PP2ct is a better tyre compared to the PP3. The PP3S look like lasting about twice as long but don't provide quite as much lateral grip. Not much in it but noticeable. More so the rear. Have a blast, Paul.Very Happy

Did a few more hot runs up and down the Oxley on the k6 1000 last weekend. Experimented further with cold tyre pressures and found 29 front and 28 rear to provide the best grip. This produced 34/34 hot pressures and about the same lateral/knee down grip as the power 2cts. Only downside was the rear being a little squirmy in the first few bends. If I ever run power 3s on the gen 2 I think 34 front and 32 rear would be my starting point for hot mountain blasts. Overall they probably are a better option than the power 2ct simply because they last heaps longer and are almost on par grip wise but the feedback through the bike does not feel as precise. Hope this makes sense, Paul.Very Happy
