Hi, Not sure if this is the correct area to post this question so also put one in the Gen II section, Sorry about that.
Has anyone used any tie downs to transport their bike anywhere before.
I am looking for some pics or some information on how to go about it.
I know on dirt bikes they use to just strap around the head of the forks and that was it.
But as the Busa has a large faring, not sure how to go about it.
It is going to be transported on a Holden Commodore ute
The distance is going to be roughly 300km high way.
So if anyone has any pics or information on the best way to tie it down it would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a Holden VUII Ute and had the busa in the back many times. You'll find it a bit short...can't shut the tailgate!!
I use a wheel chock up the front which wedges into that recessed section at the cabin and you'll find in each corner just under the back parcel shelf section a solid lug to run your tie downs too - how you run them on/over/or through the bike is up to you. The rear I mount from the pillion peg/exhaust bracket to the hook tabs on either side of the tub. I'll have a look when I get home to see if I've got some pics, but I don't think I do.

Yes forgot to mention that the tailgate won't shut.
Not sure if it is legal to drive around with it down and the back wheel sitting on it.
Is it leagal? as i will be traveling 30km on the highway with it.
The other option i found it to put the bike in the back on an angle, Like front wheel in the left hand side and the back in the right hand side.
Just really need some ideas or pics on i guess how to transport it in an VE Commodore Ute and then once it is in there how to tie it down.
Is loading it on the angle and sitting it on the side stand then tieing it down the best way, or tailgate down, (needs to be road legal)
Anymore ideas are greatly appreciated.

As far as I'm aware, it's 100% legal to have the tailgate down....no probs with that at all, however...you obscure the view of your number plate which is not legal. I've never worried about it, but if you put your plate in a visible location there is no issue.

Ah, ok.
There could be some issue there,
The ute is actually a Maloo.
I think the tail gate is pretty much the same as the standard utes tail gate.
The number plate is in the center of the tail gate, so when the tail gate is down there is now way to see it.
I take it this is the same for yours?
So basically if you remove your number plate and mount it say ovet the number plate of the busa (just for example) not sure if this is legal, but if it is, this would be ok?
Just don't really want any unwanted attention,if you know what i mean.

And just for safe measure place a bit of Red or orange rag under the rear wheel flapping over the tail gate but i think you would be hard done by if you was pinged for it

I take it these tail gates are able to take the load ok, I mean the fixtures holding the cable to the tray, (just thought of it)
Would like to see some pics of how people ties their Busa down on a commodore ute, as i only have the standard fixings, no eye bolts in the tray e.t.c.
All information is appreciated.

Thanks for the pic.
Bit hard to see how you clamped the front down.
Is it ok to run tie downs of the bar grips? or is this too much stress on them?
Just trying to find a reliable way of strapping the bike down.

I can't find any pics of mine in the ute but;
This is what I put in the ute first and get the bike sitting steady so I can tie it all down by myself

I've got a strap like this http://shop.peterstevens.com.au/CY144_da...ess/pd.php that I put on the bars,
then run my tie downs through the red loops and cross over to the front lugs like I mentioned earlier.
The back, I run the tie downs from the rear exhaust bracket to the hook tabs on the side of ute tub - you want your tie downs running forward and down,
so I use the middle hook point.
Back tyre just sits on the tailgate with enough room left to wrap my ramps in an A frame shape around the back wheel and into the ute.
Once you've done it a few times it's actualy quite quick and easy to get it all secured in the ute.

Here ya go, Busa in the back of my ute.....fits perfectly, no tie downs needed, just close the lid and your good to go
if I get the chance, i'll put my busa in the back of the ute on the weekend and take some pics of how I normaly do it.

Not sure if I am preaching to the choir but make sure you compres the forks down a fair way so the tie downs don't come loose when it bounces. Ive seen this go VERY badly on one occassion and now get paranoid and always sit on the bike and compress the forks down before transport on a ute or trailer. Given the size of a busa I would tie it down front and rear. As with any vehicle transport the 'straps' will move and rub on any surface they contact. Make sure you use old carpet/towels/rags/puppies to prevent damage to the bike.
