How many people are ruinning Muzzy fans?
Are they worth the investment or not really required?

My plastic one OEM Melted at the tips & Jammed in a hot Adelaide (10 day's over 40) spell so if you are in an area with similar heat ,well worth the Muzzy for peace of mind & to stop cooking your Motor .A fellow member told me all gen 1 fan's melt eventually in hot area's , I didn't believe him,but I do now, Like Jap turbo car's . They aren't built for Aussie Heat .

I think the Muzzy fans have six blades, as opposed to four on the plastic standard fan (?) and they are aluminium....someone will correct me if I'm wrong for sure.

I thought the same CeeJay, till I Bought one, But, Muzzy 6 blade's ,OEM 6 blade's.Only advantage is ,the muzzy Won't Melt.

Heck Greeny! I didn't know that! Might check mine in the morning. Only overheated once but that's when it was parked in the sun with the engine idleing.

Hmmm Well im running a full acro system and I never thought of this, It might pay just to upgrade to the muzzy for piece of mind...
Has anybody completed a write up on changing the fans?
Do I need to remove the radiator? (GEN II)

The Muzzy blades move more air and make more noise. I have them on the 1441 Gen 2 and on the turbo Gen 1 for additional cooling. Dont know if they are really necessary on a stock bike apart from the fact they wont melt.

For $60-$80 im thinking i'll just do it.
Any tips for the install? Did you have to remove the raidator?

Usually the prob occurs after a hard charge and bike is parked when the radiant heat from the headers melts of the blade tips as Alpal has said more so on the single walled exhaust. Have seen them with strings like spag hanging from them and when fan comes on sounds like the old peg on the spokes clicker mod or even worse it plastic welds the blade to the outer fan shroud and locks it.
I also just happen to have a set for $90 posted

You need sort of small hands it helps
good small 10 mm ring spanner & small 10 mm socket
& take your time, it wont be good if you punch a hole in your Radiator
You dont have to remove the radiator
Side fairings off
Drop oil cooler down a bit, 3 by 10mm bolts
loosen top bolts of the Radiator & take bottom bracket bolt out 10mm bolts again, you can move the Radiator forward a bit then so you can get a bit better access to the short 3 by 10 mm bolts that hold the fan in, opps unclip fan wires
When you get the new blades you have to just swap them over, just one bolt, follow the instruction it has a spacer & you could put the blade in backwards,
You will find like Bruce said the are a bit noisy when they cut in
I didn't melt my blades but I did cook one of the fan motors
It gets very hot in there

I have the Muzzy fan mod on the '00. But it also has the 4-in-1 HMF on there too.
Never noticed it every being loud though. The '00 always ran cool no matter how hot.
Only issue I had after many miles is the radiator hose touching the header ever so lightly on the left side. Over many years, this put a pin-hole leak in there during a 1000 mile weekend.
