Skimming

Sad
For those that live in Western Sydney....Thought I would post a heads up. If you have withdrawn money from a CBA ATM at Nepean Square, Penrith, keep an eye on your accounts. We withdrew a small amount of cash from the CBA ATM last Sunday and money was withdrawn from an ATM in Bondi last night.

We were skimmed for $700 last night Frown. Only found out when I went to pay for fuel today.

Now we have no access to our bank accounts and have wait for new cards and return to the main branch to activate them and change our pins.

Thieving bastards Knuppel2. Gives me the sh**ts

That's gotta hurt. I try to avoid atms. get extra cash at supermarkets etc. But you're not really safe there either, as you're relying on them not being hacked and the honesty of the operator. & never hand your card to an operator, get them to bring the machine to you. There is NO reason it should ever leave your hand during a transaction.

I have an eftpos terminal here, and it can be quite scary how trusting some people are, especially oldies who cant read the terminals so will tell you their pin number so you can do their entire transaction for them. Also with payments over the phone. These skimmers are just theives and should be treated like looters - and shot on sight!

I bought brekky from maccas the other morning and because it was credit, and under a certain amount, I didn't even need to input my pin number Idiot2. "Convenience for the customer" they said Wtf. How easy are we making it for these theiving arseholes. They pick pocket your purse or wallet, then spend your money quite easily ..
I realise that "at the end of the day" this is all covered by the banks, but as Kathy is finding out, it is a pain in the backside to get it back, and quite upsetting to have some stranger take what is yours.

Sorry .. just my 2 cents worth

If you are a skimming victim then all you need is to cancel your card and order temp and new card.
Its banks job to refund you the money and they will.

The pin/sign less transactions are much safer and only transactions upto 75 to 100$ are done via this method

As an ex-bank employee (Commonwealth) I can tell you that people processing your transaction (check-out chicks, etc...) have absolutely no right or authority to touch your card for swiping etc.... do it yourself. The best thing to do when you notice anything sus, is report it to your bank/ credit union or whoever straight away. Most of them are pretty good at dealing with fraudulent transactions.

I must admit the bank was great and gave us an overdraft for the amount we were skimmed and presented us with the cash, but it is still annoying that some scum have thought that they have the right to steal what is not theirs.....not to mention the inconvenience to us.

The "tap and go" thing is, in my opinion, crap. Sure a person can only do up to $100 at a time, but 5 different stores is $500 you can be out of pocket Frown this can be done in under 5 minutes if it has been planned ahead.

The tap and go option tracks your buying behavior and it's suppose to self lock :)

I am not sure if my transactions or spending patterns are any different to yours guys (and girls) but I never use ATMs. I have seen a program on TV a while ago on how easy it is for clever thieves to get your details and decided that I will not feed the bastards and none of my cards even have a PIN. I think you need to ask yourself why would you need cash when you can pay with a credit card everywhere now? And you get points for it :-) (Unless you get a better price of course) Use the bank's money while yours is earning the interest!

I do the same, never use my cash when I can use credit (even a 50c icecream at Maccas)I am a great believer in keeping my money paying off debt/invested when the banks will give you free credit. but I always use a pin. heaps of countries now don't accept a signature and insist on a pin. At Coles under $30(I think) requires no pin and no sig.

Well found out last night that the bank was not so great in their dealings with us Frown

Turns out that they didn't give us the overdraft as told to us, they withdrew the money from one of our other accounts, but the withdrawal did not show up until yesterday Wtf

Today we received a letter from the bank stating the details of the skimmed withdrawal....which we already knew and told the bank, but the letter then finishes by saying "we hope this answers your dispute" Wtf No it doesn't!!!!!!

I guess it is back to calling the call centre tomorrow for some real answers.

Go to your branch and speak to the manager - this will resolve the issue quickly

We went to the branch on Saturday when we discovered what had happened and they said they would give us the overdraft...didn't happen, they withdrew from our other account.

After many phone calls, was told today that their overdraft sysytem wasn't working but a note was put on the account to allow us to have access to the money and that I could go to the local branch and that it would ll be good.....not so!!! The local branch said that there was no note (I also saw there was no note), so we are still no further advanced, except that we found out the fraud department have closed the file with no outcome Wtf
